Brosnan - week 5

This week Brosnan has been lifting his head for long periods of time and looking around at the world. Should such a little thing be so exciting for his parents? We are settling into a routine and gaining a better understanding what sooths the little guy; softly singing, taking rides in the stroller and car, gently bouncing, sucking on a pacifier and being swaddled. Much to our delight, we even think he gave his Daddy a smile the other night that was not induced by gas! Now that he has lost his belly button and the circumcision has healed, Brosnan is enjoying bath time submerged in the water.

We took our first trip to the beach on Wednesday. Look how excited he was!

Brosnan's Name...

Since we were kids, the Lane family has been vacationing at Brosnan Forest in Dorchester, SC - 45 minutes west of Charleston. Norfolk Southern owns the Forrest and allows its employees to rent the log cabins during the summer months. Brosnan's Grandpa Lane is an employee of the railroad and we are fortunate that he includes us in his yearly trips! We fill our time at the forest with fishing, golf, horse shoes, swings, driving range, swimming, tennis, skeet shooting, shuffleboard, basketball, badminton, biking, hayrides..... We borrowed the name from our favorite place to name our favorite little guy!

The name Brosnan is also an Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Brosnacháin, or ‘descendant of Brosnachán’, a personal name derived from Brosna, name of a town and river in County Kerry.

See below for some pictures of the forest...

Birthing Class Moms

Since Brosnan has joined us, we have kept in touch with some of the moms from our birthing class. It is great have some other people to talk to that are going through the stages of raising a child at the same time! Here are some pictures from our first meeting. How squishy do those guys look! They are so cute!

DiGilarmo visit

We just finished a week with Aunt Kimmie and Uncle Rob. Christie and Jeremy Lamm were in town visiting too. There were a lot of firsts for us this week.
  • We met the other boys born in December whose mothers were in our birthing class.
  • We had an entire afternoon out followed by dinner at Roys. Brosnan was a perfect angel for the entire day.
  • Brosnan has his very own song written and sung by Kim.
  • Kim bathed Brosnan.
  • Rob can brag about having changed a bm diaper.
  • And we are all learning how to interpret his baby language.
It has been so wonderful for Brosnan to meet all of his proud Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Hopefully as things settle down we can get into a nice routine!

I have seen Amanda around many kids with coaching swimming and lifegurading and she always has a great report with them, but to watch her with her nephew warms my heart. She is head over heals and approaches him with a sociological interest in addition to overwhelming love. He has been practicing kicking for all of the strokes today! We watched Fraggle Rock and even did a Congo line. It was a very entertaining day! Amanda predicts that Brosnan will be a lefty like his Aunt Kimmie because he reacts quickly and firmly with that hand.
